KUCHING, 5 Oct — Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has extended a warm invitation to researchers, innovators, and experts worldwide, urging them to collaborate in the production of cost-effective hydrogen, a vital component in the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.
Speaking at the 27th World Congress on Innovation and Technology and 6th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (WCIT-IDECS) Gala Dinner, Premier Abang Johari emphasized the importance of hydrogen production in the context of environmental sustainability.
"Please come over to Sarawak and let us produce the hydrogen," he said, underlining the region's commitment to environmentally friendly energy solutions.
In addition to hydrogen production, Premier Abang Johari welcomed researchers to explore Sarawak's abundant and diverse biodiversity, specifically focusing on the region's rich flora and fauna.
He stressed the need for research to be conducted using generative artificial intelligence (AI), showcasing Sarawak's forward-looking approach to cutting-edge technologies.
"This morning I had the privilege to meet a lot of scientists when officiating the 1st Natural Science and Technology Conference 2023 organized by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas). Their topics were all about the rich tropical biodiversity (of Borneo)," Premier Abang Johari shared.
He expressed his enthusiasm for research in the realm of life sciences and highlighted the potential for findings to contribute significantly to conserving Sarawak's status as the 'world's richest rainforest.'
Also present, Chief Minister of Penang Chow Kon Yeow, Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asia Awang Nasar, Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Secretary Secretary Datuk amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, WCIT-IDECS co-deputy chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (Witsa) chairman Dr Sean Seah.
